.journey.

Today I drove down to Springfield to drop off my painting for the MOAK show.
First it was weird because it was so easy, then it was weird because the Docent was at the front desk and he put on these immaculate white cotton gloves to handle my piece after I'd filled out requisite forms. Seriously, other people should be taking care of my work more often. I just wrap things in plastic-wrap.
Because I don't know any better.

Then I met lovely people for lunch!

And popped by to visit the Second Annual Pagan Picnic...

Good day!

.presentations.

One of the things that's been really interesting over the last 7 months running Raqs Bohéme has been the applications I've been getting from dancers wanting to perform in the show. I have very specific guidelines of what to submit and how to submit it - not terribly hard or complicated, but specific: bio or resume, professional dance photo, dance video, and availability.

Almost without fail, the dancers who have read and followed the application guidelines have been high quality professional dancers who I've been pleased to try to find space for. On the other hand, there have been a few poorly put together applications from dancers who just aren't' ready for my stage yet.

I realize that a part of that dichotomy is that professional seasoned dancers have these things readily available on hand - and it takes about five minutes to cut and paste and link into an email - whereas dancers just starting out in their professional careers don't. You have to perform in order to get performance videos. Hiring a professional photographer to get good promotional shots is not cheap. And a dance resume takes some thought and consideration to put together successfully.

All three of these things are essential to any dancers professional dance kit. They require time, money and a little foresight - and if you aren't willing to put forth the effort you might want to reconsider how much you really want to be a professional dancer. No different than applying for any other job, every aspect of your presentation deserves as much effort as you can possibly put into it.

.oh my dayplanner.

I really should not go anywhere without it.
Or talk to anybody without it.
Or think about doing anything without examining it.

Normally I do pretty well. I'm bizarrely meticulous with all of my list-making and note-taking – but every once in awhile I slip up and write something down on the wrong day, or write down the wrong time (or miss that the time of something has changed) or make plans without double checking and double book myself and don't figure it out until the day before.

Needless to say I've done it again.
The opening at the Springfield Museum of Art I was so determined to drive three hours to attend?
November 16th.
Same night as Raqs Bohéme.

So I suppose that's settled...

Accepted!

totally hanging on my fridge

The opening reception is November 16th, from 5:30-7pm, so I absolutely need to find a way to get out of work early enough to drive down there and attend. Information is here.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Jay Acovone totally thinks I'm hot.

.almost.home.

Almost home, and our one point of pride for the whole trip - we totally outgeeked everyone on the Cruise Ship at SciFi Trivia. And the one question we got that noone else did?
What does T.A.R.D.I.S. stand for?
Seriously!

.royal.smoker.

For the past I don't know how many years, I've been dancing at the Royal Smoker at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. This is the adult show - 10$ to get in gets you alcoholic beverages, a cigar, food and all the bawdy songs the Faire won't let anyone sing anywhere else. Then we come in to clean it up a little bit with live drumming and dancing. 4:30p-5:30pm daily.
I trade off with dancers Mitti and Lydia. Here are my performance dates if you'd like to come out and see me:
September 16th
September 30th
October 7th
October 14th
