.and monday.

I had intended to write a review of "An Iliad", which the Mister and I saw at the Spencer last night - because it was wonderful and someone there had told us it had gotten and awful review (which I cannot find) and some part of my heart wanted to remedy that by putting my own voice and experience out there...

Also, this hottie is basically the entire cast.
But instead I spent the day weighing the pros and cons of hiding hundreds of crickets in someones desk, versus a live tarantula. The jury is still out. I'm not 100% sure how much I want to get written up for....bringing a pet to work? (or is that harassment?)....or how much I want to torture a poor arachnid. Though the price is right - I think I can buy one for around twenty green things. And I do have a terrarium that people keep telling me needs a critter, on the off chance that the poor beast doesn't get smashed.

But "An Iliad" was wonderful, and I highly recommend you go see it.

.time sink.

Art takes time.
I think a lot of people who don't create art don't realize that - it's very easy to look at a finished piece and imagining it springing out of the creators mind into existence.
But I, as a creator, forget it quite often as well.

My plan yesterday was to leave work, go home and finish inking "The Sun", and get a little dance practice in before going to bed.

By the time I finished inking it was 9:30 and my whole evening had disappeared down an art rabbit-hole, leaving me no time for dance practice as my day job has me set for Old Man Bedtime. In short, what I thought was going to be a 2 hour ink job ended up being 5. Evening burned up.
No dance time for me.

There's a Work/Work/Life balance that I've been struggling with more lately than I have since college really - ever since I started this new job as Art Director, rather than Artist. Longer hours, less free time during the day, and longer hours. Plus shiny new kinds of emotional stress. Despite what some think - art is not easy. Art is hard. Art is work. Continuous ongoing work with no retirement plan.

Ideally, I'd like to be self employed someday. With that in mind, there's this:

40% Black

One of the better questions I've received recently in regards to print:

“Can you ask the art department to confirm a cmyk blend comparable to 40% black so it prints gray and not a tint of black?”

Names have been omitted to protect.....people.

Happy New Year!

I am not in this photo!
I fell asleep at 10pm last night. Consequently, I'm not hung over - which is excellent because there is so much to do.
